Maintain fresh wiper blades and get in the habit of checking your vehicle's lights, which include the parking, driving, back-up and blinkers on a weekly basis. Don't allow you fuel level to drop below a quarter of a tank of fuel. Don't use any additives not recommeneded for your vehicle by the manufacturer or a higher octane fuel then required.
These basic habits will allow the average owner to properly maintain a vehicle. They each can be performed without visiting a service center. In addition, conscious driving habits can also be beneficial to the care of your vehicle.
When driving, avoid hard braking and quick accelerations. Allow your vehicle to warm up for at least 2-3 minutes before moving. This will allow the motor to properly circulate and warm the engine and transmission oils which to a car, is the equivalent of blood in humans.
When operating a manual transmission, be vigilant in proper gear changing at the required RPMs. Avoid engaging the clutch other than when shifting to a higher or lower gear range.
Follow the manufacturer's recommended services at the proper intervals for your vehicle. These have been established to provide longevity to your vehicle. With a conscious effort on your behalf, and a little reading research, you will find you are able to maintain your vehicle as best as you can. Leave the major repairs and services to a professional. This practice will assure that you are caring for your vehicle and investment as best as you can.
